FAQ

Can I take this cruise and the train on the same day?

Absolutely! The afternoon cruise is perfectly synchronized with same-day, round-trip Alaska Railroad transportation. Upon arrival at the train depot, a friendly Major Marine Tours representative will be there to guide you to the nearby check-in office, which is just a short 2-minute walk away from the depot. After the cruise, you'll have sufficient time to stroll back to the depot before the train departs at 6:00 p.m. In the rare event of a train delay, we will make every effort to arrange transfers to an alternative date or to the 4 Hour Cruise, departing at 12:30 p.m.

Will I see any glaciers on this cruise?

Certainly! This cruise offers a captivating visit to one active tidewater glacier in Aialik Bay. Depending on weather conditions, you may also be treated to the magnificent sight of Bear Glacier, the grand piedmont glacier, and the largest glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park, along with alpine glaciers majestically perched high in the mountains.

Will I see any whales on this cruise?

While we cannot guarantee whale sightings, our experienced captains are well-versed in wildlife patterns and will guide the vessel to wildlife hot spots. Additionally, they maintain communication with other vessels to maximize the chances of encountering whales. On average, we spot whales on 80% of our 6 Hour Kenai Fjords National Park Cruises. The extended duration of the cruise increases the likelihood of witnessing these magnificent marine creatures.

Will I get seasick?

During a brief period, this tour crosses through the Gulf of Alaska, where the open waters can be a bit bumpy, increasing the chances of seasickness. To address this, we recommend taking motion sickness medication such as Dramamine or Bonine before the cruise if you are prone to seasickness. Rest assured, these medications are available for purchase at our check-in offices and onboard our cruises. For added reassurance, our half-day cruises mainly navigate in protected waters, reducing the likelihood of experiencing seasickness.
